Our history

The roots of Garmendia Cigars trace back to the 1930s, when José Pérez’s grandmother handcrafted rustic cigars known as “Chilcagre,” rolled entirely by hand and sold to local landowners. That early connection to the leaf became a family legacy.

Raised around tobacco fields, José entered the cigar industry at 17, gaining experience in every stage of production and later mastering the business side of the craft. It was inside a cigar factory where he met Angélica María Garmendia García—his wife and business partner.

In 2010, united by passion and determination, they left their jobs to build their own dream: Garmendia Cigars.

Today, each cigar reflects generations of knowledge, sacrifice, and dedication—crafted with pride in the heart of Nicaragua’s tobacco tradition. With a commitment to quality, consistency, and authenticity, Garmendia Cigars brings the character and richness of Nicaraguan tobacco to discerning smokers around the world.
